BTP vs TCS ; RPC vs CDE

May 31, 2006

#!/usr/bin/python
print “”"

Been doing my BTP for an year now. (It started as my honors project) . Things were going along quite well with no visible competition from any one or any where until todays deccan chronicle shows up ;turns out TCS is planning to do some research in a project very similar to ours. Wonder if the prof knows abt it. Any way, TCS seems to have provided the motivation required to get the project into the fast gear.
As far as the second topic in the post is concerned, it has nothing to do with Remote Procedure Calls. For the inquisitive ones, RPC stands for Room PC :) . My pc seems to be trying hard to stay on , in fact it tries too hard that it actually over uses the processor, heats up and shuts down. My only respite seems to be the habitable conditions of the lab. (which of course is gonna be shut down from monday – thank you IIIT). Moved my domain to cde for the past three days, working on mansih’s pc (yeah manish , this means you and it ain’t no spelling mistake).

ps1: football is nice
ps2: woohoo ( anand knows why)
ps3: too many signs from god to work on btp
ps4: feeling sleepy
ps5: cs getting boring, getting converted to the dota religion.

eswc, wdkm , sts, mpw

May 28, 2006

finally decided not to goto eswc. wdkm results discouraged me a lot. seems everything learnt in the dwdm course has been refuted by pkr. After a long discussion yesterday night, we decided to cancel ceg tour of eswc.

wdkm results out, got a total of 70…turns out even though bushi and me took the same project , pkd decides to give bushi 20 and me 16 :( what the hell ? bastard bushi …This can happen only with pkr.

sts results are also out. got an ‘A’. woohoo…. humanities seem to be helping me the last two sems.

mpw: yeah , you guessed it right . My Project Work seems to be moving at a snail’s pace. Never thought something as trivial as the GUI design can be a pita. Bushi is supposed to be working on it . Haven’t seen ne thing so far. He b8r have some thing to show – heard Prof. Kamal is back.

ps1: people who have worked on swing in jython — pls contact me .
ps2: v.v.v bored
ps3: gonna speed up the progress on btp
ps4: i am sure my ip will be the first if ranta chks the iiit-blogroll hits.
ps5: firefox refuses to work on my pc. bloody bus error
ps6: how i met your mother is a good comedy series
ps7: sid is back from home which means playing football will be more regular .
ps8: i want an A in WDKM, you listening pkr !

HuH

May 22, 2006

#!/usr/bin/python
print “”"

The past few days have been quite boring, all the more reason to blog i guess. Unfortunately , i did not have any interesting topic to write on. Lets face it, everyone seems to be writing on the reservation issue and i wouldn’t want anyone to read another blog with his/her comments abt reservation. Hence the post title ‘HuH’ ( donno why i like HuH or HUHA).

quest for AJAX : this is gonna be my last post relating to this topic. Thanks to iv, xmlrpc blah seemed to accomplish what i wanted to do . Atleast, everything i thought of doin :P . The connections can be happily implemented using this mod. By the way, does ne one know how the widgets ( Message Box , etc ) in meebo are made ?

ps1: realised that i could have named the post quest for ajax-3 after all
ps2: wanna win some cs
ps3: really miss football, hope sid comes fast …
ps4: realised i have to learn basketball well b4 i leave the institute
ps5: suddenly feel like going to coorg . ( have gone thr once, its amazing …)
ps6: feel like going to the bahamas ( have not gone thr even once, its amazing ( atleast thts what i heard)
ps7: summerofcode status tommorrow, hope psf funds the project
ps8: posthumus-cuzco is amazing stuff.
ps9: 24 season 5 is good
ps10: scrubs is also good (does ne one have 521?)
ps11: should i continue having the python touch to every post of mine ?

quest for a jacks – part II

May 17, 2006

#!/usr/bin/python

print """

      Ok, so i got mod_python to work on my pc, still haven't figured out how somethin like meebo can run using mod_python. (i think the freakin site misled me, mod_python can however help write some handlers which can be inserted in apache <if i got it right> ). The hunt for a proper AJAX tut led me to another site 'SAJAX' – supposed to be some kinda simple framework for AJAX or somethin like that. blah…no more of this bull shit. Considered iv's comment though — using SimpleXMLRPCServer and xmlrpclib might actually be of some kinda help. Probably using some kinda appropriate javascript + the xmlrpc libraries might actually be of some help. My knowledge is however restricted in this direction ( cus i never used javascript )  which led me to one conclusion —– ajax has to wait…javascript has to wait ——first things first —CS  :) …aha peesu has just sent an IM .

mod_python !!

May 16, 2006

#!/usr/bin/python

print """

With frequent problems given by yahoo messenger in linux, i had to shift to a much better option for chatting ( and no its not tipIM :P cus it ain't popular yet) – ne way , its called meebo.com and is a wonderful site. ne way , i think its been done using AJAX ( i still don't know its capabilities..but it seems to be popular ne way). Turns out AJAX was a combination of java + ….This led me to a long search for any kind of link between AJAX tech and python. The final result mod_python. It got installed with ease (negelecting a simple mistake which i made while setting it up) . Ne way, now that its been done, I was happy to see the wonderful way in which it worked. Did not get into hardcore programming using it but will try to update regularly as and when i work on it .

ps0: so far, mod_python is good

ps1: the mailing forum is the best. No where else have i seen an accurate reply as fast as this place.

ps2: jython update as when bushi completes the gui . hope its good :)

ps3: really pissed I was at the canteen today ( i think it was cus i was tired) . to the crap family (Please ask me to count 1-10 everytime i give signs of anger)

ps4: we need more ppl for football

ps5: i've said it once, and i will say it again . ps's rock —- asimov iv

ps6: asimov above stands for awesome. hope, it catches on.

    For those who don't know abt counter-strike, its one of the coolest games involving stratergies and team-work (dota is useless :P ) . Counter strike has become an intgral part of IIIT life (bitch iv..). Saw an awesome counter-strike video just now (courtesy SpawN)  called best of bobby. (turns out its an all female clan and believe me when i say this — They absafu**inlutely rock . Speaking of amazing videos, Pubmasters2 is also out. Not as impressive as the first one,  this video still adds 'HUHAness'(you aren't the only one who can coin words iv :) ) to the pubmasters series. More on counter strike videos l8r.

Welcome to Tipo Inc

May 13, 2006

#!/usr/bin/python

print """

THIS POST IS A DIRECT CONSEQUENCE OF THE TIPFS(FUNDM) EPISODE DURING WHICH SEVERAL ALLIES TURNED HOSTILE

Allright, now this was supposed to be a very ambitious project. The initial plan was to replicate many of the features which google performs.(the present plan is to try to complete the previous plan before I leave the institute). Here's how the responsibilities were divided,

iv, manish- Google search replica

me,aziz -Google news replica ( This was however terminated due to some kinda non-coop movement by pkr during the WDKM course. His response to our Google news proposal — "Why will anyone use your project instead of Google news". With such an attitude we felt we would be killing time if we were to convince him otherwise)

me,aziz- Google audio (Lets hope this gets over)

neeraj and co — Google images (Lets hope this gets over)

What does this have to do with Tipo Inc. Well, tipo inc is a small step towards achieving the google dream.

Here are two products developed under Tipo inc

http://sourceforge.net/projects/mymessenger

http://sourceforge.net/projects/downloadmgr

ps0: I guess its time to revive the project , wat say ?

ps1: Tommorrow's breakfast is dosa -woohoo

ps2: best of luck to all cs teams(men/women) from iiit @ eswc

ps3: gonna stop 24 for a while

ps4: aoc and warcraft are for wusses, cs rulz

ps5: vasan has sent me some kinda blonde joke. so, i am gonna stop this post right now.

Jython

May 7, 2006

#!/bin/env python

print “”"

    Got bored out of my skull yesterday, so tried my luck at jython. Got installed with ease. For all those who don’t know what Jython is — ‘Jython is an implementation of the high-level, dynamic, object-oriented language Python written in 100% Pure Java, and seamlessly integrated with the Java platform’ . This would mean that writing java functionalities would be as easy as writing any other python functionality ( I hope , haven’t really got my hands dirty with jython ) .

    Of course the ‘huhaness’ after installation took a plunge as soon as i found out that there was no help() functionality in jython  nor did the up- arrow thingy work ( which means that there was no history maintained) . But i guess these are irrelevant when you look at the package as a whole.

    This however got me thinking about python development. Python has been so good ,its gotten me wondering why more companies don’t adopt it.  Anyway, CGI would definetly use python as its core programming language. more l8r, ciao

the bungle bot experience

May 5, 2006

#!/bin/env python

print """

For all those who think 'bungle bot' sounds interesting, well, it ain't as interesting as it poses to be. Today was yet another day when electronics confused us. (the previous one was when a motor refused to rotate when batteries were connected to it through a battery case, it however rotated when the batteries were places in a crude manner- placed in series manually :P ). Things were going well, hats off to iv (for finding the chip and integrating it) , when suddenly < recall the bates motel music > , the bot seemed to somehow increase the supplied voltage exponentially and the whole working of the bot goes haywire. what was wrong? well, we don't exactly know.
The bottom line is 'CSE students should not take robotics unless they seriously want a course without an end-sem exam.' more l8r, ciao
PS1: If Rawat is reading this, Dood, revise the networks grading,

PS2: BTP is painful.

PS3: Tomorrow's breakfast @OBH ff is dosa, woohoo….

PS4: this ps thing rox, i just can't seem to stop

PS5: I henceforth don't want to be known as ?-MAN.

PS6: I just realised blogs seem to be a hotbed for flaming. :(
