decision time yet again :)

The Grad scene:

I’m finally done with getting the required documents here at IIIT. Lot of things have happened since my last post. I’ve got three admits now – gatech, ufl and umn. However, it seems to be tough deciding where to go since UFL is offering a very good discount on the tuition fee. The situation is so confusing that even the graduate studies counsellor at IIIT (this means you , fauji) is having a tough time deciding where I should go. Hopefully,I’ll get to meet some important people in the coming month who can help me decide.

ps2: Aziz says I need to get a haircut because I’m starting to resemble iv.

ps3: Football is fun, its gonna come to an end though .

ps5: Was thinking of making a ug2k3 gamers list, but it turns out that people have too many names in too many games. If only halley were a gamer, the list would have been made by now.

Getting an admit – is it easy ?

I’ve started to hate the word “regret” – Me

I was actually gonna wait for iv to finish his post about the universities, but I’m kinda loosing my nerve. Anyways, got my first two rejects after a long wait from Vtech and Irvine. The worse part is I had applied to these universities for my masters thinking that it would be easier getting into the masters programme rather than the PhD one. The reason for the anger is however the fact that no university mentions where you actually failed to make it.

I’ve got only four univs(ufl,umn,gt,usc). left now, three of which are ranked better than the ones where I got the rejects from. Fauji also keeps telling me that usc doesn’t give any aid to masters students. An important lesson here to people who are gonna apply to USC. Always apply to the Phd programme there. If anyone (this means you – yarji) can do anything to improve my chances of getting into a place with aid, please go ahead.

Digressing, life at IIIT is almost coming to an end. iv & co, are giving the farewell speech. Went to my last class yesterday only to find peesu absent. What happened to the first bench plan ?

ps1: Admissions thingy pissing me off.

ps2: If the FBI wants a piece of me, I dare them to first get through baba,aziz,monga and iv (cus its fun watching you get hit).

ps3: Other Univs seem to have an unfair advantage over IIIT in terms of reputation abroad. I think its time the Profs do something about this (get me in a good place); otherwise there are hardly gonna be any iiit’ians in the academic field.

ps4: Do I regret studying at IIIT ? No.

I’ve got this brilliant idea to put the date as the title for the post everytime I run out of ideas. Any way, nothing interesting happening anywhere. Independence day celebrations were held on 15th (duh) and sadly I couldn’t make it (no one woke me up) . I attended the evening function and it was actually decent . Atleast the cultural council is making a decent effort in making life here a lil more lively.

A new game is out http://appi101.wordpress.com/2006/08/17/of-bad-programming-and-stuff-to-do/. It’s supposed to be similar to Diablo (yuck) . Dota is good and seems to be the general interest of the majority . Recent games in dota are boring though. Peesu’s loosing streak is like an aura.

BTP viva got postponed . So, I’ve got to go through yet another day of anxiety.

Karma

This is the second time I am writing this post thanks to the “uninterrupted” working state of my pc. Never actually believed in Karma before until I saw “My name is Earl”. Pretty good show, decent comedy. Lately, I have had a lot (I mean a lot) of free time to think about my life and the events that surround me. I seem to have narrowed the reason as to why things happen the way they have been happening. Karma. (Damn you anand, hate it when you are right.)
After the STS grades were out, I heard someone actually say “lucky teepo”. Soon after, WDKM results were also out. Seems I missed an ‘A’ by 0.80 + My grade slipped to a ‘B’ because of attendance. (Mind you, I don’t have less attendance, I guess pkr doesn’t like me). Karma, sigh..
In 12′th I was actually preparing for EAMCET, yes..its the CET for AP, ended up registering for AIEEE for the simple reason that NITW was considering admissions on the basis of AIEEE. Landed in IIIT. (I also got in NITW btw) . Its difficult to analyze whether my life here has been good or bad. On a scale of 10 (10 being a very nice experience in IIIT), I would rate my life a 4. Slowly believing in kannan’s philosophy – “Grade does not matter” .
The bottom line …- No more why’s and how’s. No more caring. Karma will take care. (just make sure i end up with a CGP of 8.1 , if possible 8.5 )

BTP vs TCS ; RPC vs CDE

Been doing my BTP for an year now. (It started as my honors project) . Things were going along quite well with no visible competition from any one or any where until todays deccan chronicle shows up ;turns out TCS is planning to do some research in a project very similar to ours. Wonder if the prof knows abt it. Any way, TCS seems to have provided the motivation required to get the project into the fast gear.
As far as the second topic in the post is concerned, it has nothing to do with Remote Procedure Calls. For the inquisitive ones, RPC stands for Room PC . My pc seems to be trying hard to stay on , in fact it tries too hard that it actually over uses the processor, heats up and shuts down. My only respite seems to be the habitable conditions of the lab. (which of course is gonna be shut down from monday – thank you IIIT). Moved my domain to cde for the past three days, working on mansih’s pc (yeah manish , this means you and it ain’t no spelling mistake).

eswc, wdkm , sts, mpw

finally decided not to goto eswc. wdkm results discouraged me a lot. seems everything learnt in the dwdm course has been refuted by pkr. After a long discussion yesterday night, we decided to cancel ceg tour of eswc.

wdkm results out, got a total of 70…turns out even though bushi and me took the same project , pkd decides to give bushi 20 and me 16 what the hell ? bastard bushi …This can happen only with pkr.

sts results are also out. got an ‘A’. woohoo…. humanities seem to be helping me the last two sems.

mpw: yeah , you guessed it right . My Project Work seems to be moving at a snail’s pace. Never thought something as trivial as the GUI design can be a pita. Bushi is supposed to be working on it . Haven’t seen ne thing so far. He b8r have some thing to show – heard Prof. Kamal is back.

For all those who think 'bungle bot' sounds interesting, well, it ain't as interesting as it poses to be. Today was yet another day when electronics confused us. (the previous one was when a motor refused to rotate when batteries were connected to it through a battery case, it however rotated when the batteries were places in a crude manner- placed in series manually ).
