Two done, one to go !!

After a long session of continuous work, I guess today is the day I finally have nothing to do. My BTP seems to be done, except for the fact that I need to add more songs to the audio database (http://172.16.14.6/btp/audio_playlist.m3u). I think Deepak is going to resume his posts devoted to cs; speaking of which, cs seems to be the in-thing again. It might be due to the fact that felicity is approaching and we would like to win the cs title atleast once before leaving the institute. FYI, we came second last year (slayers came second last year).

A to-the-point post

If the title is too difficult to comprehend , let me try to help you out here. I got up an hour back thinking it was going to be a pleasant and casual day (you know; the kind of day where you don’t actually go around killing things). My return from the mess however seemed to “bee” on the contrary. I was welcomed by a pretty abnormally large bee in my room buzzing near the window . Turns out the bee was actually building something in my room. It looked like sand to me. The rest is actually quite predictable — I took a shirt hanger and eventually broke the sand mould. To my surprise, I saw a green wormish thing trying to  come out. Before people start telling “Awww….cho chweet”  ,let me clarify that it wasn’t anything chweetish. (thr , one more word to added to the dictionary). What happens next is again quite obvious, the mold was destroyed and I spent the rest of the morning locked in my room hoping the parent bee won’t notice me.

ps1: A new word “chweetish”= “sho shweet”= very sweet has been added . My GRE vocab seems to be improving

the yearning for better education

So, I am in the fourth year and i think its about time that I start deciding what I want to do with/in life ( keeping aside the fact that its every human’s soal aim to ensure that his species propagates ).

My gre got over on 19th of this month ; sadly the scores suck. iv’s hypothesis relates to some kinda conspiracy by the ets people to not give more than 600 to any one in the verbal section on that day. Ever since then, I’ve been interrogated with more or less the same questions “Is – enough ? Will you be writing again ? “. I’ve heard getting into a univ in the u.s of a is actually not difficult. Its kinda like the local eng. colleges here where thr are around 60k odd seats available. However, its the good colleges which one is after (of course).

A premonition in this regard — Its quite dangerous when your parents actually see the campus of colleges like MIT, Stanford cus this just raises their expectations. I don’t have an actual number for the number of people from iiit who have actually got a place there( from what i’ve heard ; i don’t think its high).

Continuing from where I left, the gre exam officially sucks. With several arbit words like  “slight” meaning “to show disrespect” i think you can understand my plight. For those giving the gre , do not trust the visu wordlist book ; you’ve got to finish barron’s + some confidence would help. More advice if/when I give a b8r gre.

recap of freshers

It started off like any other day. A properly won football match, an LP class where manish’s name was chanted in chorus; the only thing remaining was a fun freshers night. So, I reached there at around 7:00 to see the performances. Agni’s performance was going on and people told me that it sucked ( I ‘m an agnian ). This was followed by prithvi, aakash and vayu’s performances. Aakash had actually performed very well ( for a change ). Of course, the fun part of the programme was performed by the classic IIIT audience. With people booing and shouting so loud so as to make the contestants inaudible, it seemed like a re-enactment of the mr & mrs felicity contest. Special instruments were also imported to make the night more loud and lively.

While all forms of slogans were used ( usuals like “ek do theen char…”…,etc) , the only thing missing was the “ram ram satya hai…” routine (heard this from shamanth; turns out this is commonly done by iit’ians during shastra).

The first session ended with an active participation by the audience in charles darwin’s Survival of the fittest” at our very own mess. With people jostling their way through the long line, it was only a matter of time before “the prodigal iitian” gave his haughty stare . Sid of course lost his cool . After the gruelling session in the mess, the mr and mrs. fresher resumed at 9:30 followed by some kinda dj night (is it ?) .

I’ve got this brilliant idea to put the date as the title for the post everytime I run out of ideas. Any way, nothing interesting happening anywhere. Independence day celebrations were held on 15th (duh) and sadly I couldn’t make it (no one woke me up) . I attended the evening function and it was actually decent . Atleast the cultural council is making a decent effort in making life here a lil more lively.

A new game is out http://appi101.wordpress.com/2006/08/17/of-bad-programming-and-stuff-to-do/. It’s supposed to be similar to Diablo (yuck) . Dota is good and seems to be the general interest of the majority . Recent games in dota are boring though. Peesu’s loosing streak is like an aura.

BTP viva got postponed . So, I’ve got to go through yet another day of anxiety.

Long time since I posted, no inspiring thoughts for quite some time and I don’t want my blog to be YAD (yet another diary – if iv comes up with another acronym for this he can go hump a tree). Finished the cog science presentation, went ok i guess. The DE lab is conducting weekly reviews of projects . Heard from someone that CVIT did this. (^%&*). Any way, yours truly and the image DB guys are the chosen one’s for next week’s presentation. The first presentation in this regard was held yesterday. For some strange reasons , Niraj asks a doubt (god knows why he would attract attention). Any way, this post is merely cus  I feel its about time I got some reviews. The following has been inspired from the movie “Hypercube” (which totally sux compared to Cube) and the time spent in the cog science class . For some strange reason the following just popped in my head .

I have never been able to imagine how 4-d and 5-d would be perceived.For some strange reasons,

Imagine 4 co-ordinate axix, one x,one y, one z, and the fourth one representing “space”. To make it more understandable, consider a case when you are looking at an object. (say a human from behind). While the human brain would be able to comprehend the basic structure of the object you are looking at, there would be somethings we will not be able to figure out, intricate things like the structure of the eyes…..<you get the idea right !!>. Simple put, if something could perceive a human being in four dimensions, it would be able to perceive the structure completely.(imagine watching a gal from behind and figuring out if she is good looking or not).

Well , in the case of 5 d objects, it wld be more or less same, except for the fact that one could actually tune what he or she wants to perceive kinda like a microscope. i.e when one watches a table, he would actually be able to either see what we see or look at it from a deeper level (you know, the electrons and blah).

12th July

ok dokey, yet again I have nothing to write about. Saw the france vs italy finals. Awesome game by the french ; wonderful shots ; kinda dissapointing at the end though. Waiting to hear what happened between zidane and materazzi .

ps1: read pati’s post on 18 gf’s , reminded me of a lot of things. (vishnu claiming he was from charminar and murders happen thr everyday , manish coming three days b4 college started, grawl’s experience , trappy running on the third floor shouting ” i am a disco dancer” …he he )

ps2: shocking incident the mumbai blasts were, wats the govt doin?

ps3: thinking of joining politics to improve india’s situation,of course that would mean that i would have to give up my ferrari racing dream and the settling in the bahamas plan.

Did not post for a long time. Full credit goes to wordpress and the fact that my pc has been preventing me from blogging. My windows setup seems to reboot whenever it wishes to while my linux setup just stops responding the moment I start some special applications. (reiserfs – panic it says :O ).

* For people with reiserfs panic , a simple ro mount + fsck with a rebuild of the tree will do. *

Anyway, bf2 special forces is in. It’s amazing. With additional features like flash bangs, tear-gas, smoke grenades, hooks, ropes…..(phew) it’s simply a must-play game.  Oops, forgot all about the fast-terrain vehicles.

Dota games are also getting more interesting. Thanks to the extensive campaign against divine rapier, dota is much more interesting.

*      Really want to finish a major part of the BTP in the holidays. No sign of the prof. though.    *

The following is the “theory of evolution” (my version of course) – the result of a lot of bc + inspiration from a movie (The Jacket – a must c).

Okey, first of all the motive for any being in the universe

1. making sure that its existence is not in danger.

2. making sure that the species propagates.

Nature also btw is in the process of evolution. The beings (this includes all living beings) are all components of nature. As such nature also makes sure that its both protected and also survives for a long time . (Hence the balance – herb. v carn. ). As such nature took a shot with the dinosaurs – the strongest creatures ever. And as usual with great power comes great responsibities. Of course, shit happened and the dinosaur species became extinct. This was when evolution produced a new species – homo sapiens , beings with intelligence capable of finding a way out of most disasters (with a pretty high propogation rate , someone must survive).

As a result, we will c an increase in the intelligence of human beings (except u vasan ) as time goes by until,of course ,shi* happens.
